Cops Love Belligerent Celebrities
MoviePoopShoot.com, November 2002
Joshua Jackson is really up the creek.
The 24-year-old star of the WB's DAWSON'S CREEK was arrested and jailed over the weekend for an alleged drunken assault on a security guard at a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The heartthrob also known as Pacey Witter--a Vancouver-born hockey fanatic who appeared in THE MIGHTY DUCKS movies--apparently got rowdy with a DAWSON'S crew member during the game. For some unknown reason, the actor grabbed security guard Drew Grissom around the neck and start throwing punches, police say. Jackson was picked up by the cops, tossed into jail and registered a 0.14 blood-alcohol level before he posted a $1,000 bond early Sunday morning.
Reps for the actor are offering no comment, but a transcript of his bizarre jailhouse behavior printed in Monday's RALEIGH NEWS & OBSERVER features some very sardonic, Pacey-like moments. Among the highlights:
* He was causing a ruckus in his jail cell and refused to take a voluntary blood-alcohol test. He so irritated arresting officer G.R. Passley that authorities asked the presiding magistrate to "make this guy's bond as high as you can." (Jackson later agreed to take the test.)
* When the magistrate asked the bleary-eyed star what his problem was, Jackson replied, "What kind of problem? Officer Passley type of problems, I'd say."
* Jackson then raised his hands to his chest and asked, "Can I respectfully ask it be moved to Wilmington?" (filming site of DAWSON'S CREEK). He was denied.
* Next, the actor asked how to file a complaint of improper treatment by the police and said he would have a hard time getting his hands on the $1,000 bail. "I'm a long way from anybody that I might be able to get $1,000 from," he said. Eventually he met his bail and, as of Monday, no charges of police brutality have been filed against the Raleigh Police Department.
Jackson's cohort in the attack was 38-year-old Terry Long, a member of the CREEK production team who told the cops he jumped into the brawl quickly after Jackson jumped the guard. Arrest warrants show that he was charged with being intoxicated and disruptive and also possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He remains jailed.
Jackson is to appear in Wake County District Court December 4 to face a misdemeanor assault charge.
Aside from his date with the North Carolina legal system, Jackson is busy wrapping this, the sixth season of DAWSON'S CREEK.
