It's All Josh

STAR Magazine, Jan 2001

Pacey Witter holds a special place in many of our hearts (you got that right!) It must be something to do with those big blue-green eyes, that charasmatic wit and the cheeky no-good behaviour thats always landing him in trouble. But the man who plays him,Joshua Jackson, shares many personality traits with his Wilmington alter-ego. The first thing you notice about Josh is his smile. It's warm and mischievious and as he speaks, he slips into that unforgettable tine which has becomes Pacey's trademark. He's not the kind of person to make an appearance at every celebrity bash going, and he keeps his racy love life securely under wraps, but Star got behind that shady exterior to bring u the real Josh Jackson-uncensored!.

Josh is no stanger to the ladies and, although any questions referring his romantic status are met with stony silence, he is reported to have off-screen relationships with Dawson's stars Katie Holmes and Brittany Daniels "Theres an ethic that says don't mess where you eat," he says, "But what can you do when your surrounded by beautiful women? you might as well right? If I', attracted to somebody, I don't care if I'm working with them or met them in a coffee shop".

But before any budding Mrs Jacksons start hanging out in there local Starbucks, remember it takes a special something to tear Josh's eyes away from his cappuccino, "It's always something different that catches your eye from the begining, something that makes her stand out in a crowd. It's hard to explain but the best way to describe it is that she has to have something that makes me 'Wow!' when I see her!".

Josh was born in Vancouver and is a fiercely loyal to the Canadian city where his mother and sister Aisleagh still live. He describes his school day at Kistlano High School as "abbreviated and herky-jerky" since he was expelled at 14 because of his poor attendance record and his cheeky behaviour. But Josh intends to carry on his education once his fam"dries up"-one of his major goals is to attend University ( go josh, go josh....)

"I have no desire to make A or B student" he explains "Thats not what drives me.But just learning in general and sitting amoung a group of my peers where you can reap the benefit of having 40 minds tackling a problem and where you're inevitably going to have 40 different views on which way to do it".

Josh is passionate about politics and regards the recent American election as an important issue for young people "My generation is going to inherit this country and while some issues can seem pretty inconsequential to the average 18 year old, that is our future. I think that it should be the requirements of citizenship that everybody vote."

All this from a man who is described by his on-screen sister Sasha Alexander, as "the craziest guy I've ever met. He's always goofing around on set and making everybody laugh, so it's really difficult to film scenes with him!".

His on-set pranks are legendary and have cost hime a few bruises in revenge tricks. And while he may not attend many Celebrity parties, he admits enjoying a night on the raz. When he was in the Uk last summer he and T4's Dermot O'Leary hit the town, determined to get a name check in the tabloids.

However he intends to keep his next visit a little less High profile,"I think the next time I come over to England (Yay he's coming back!!!...woohoo! ), I'll come under my own steam with no publicity people with me," he confides.

With his efforts to protect his private lif, it's clear that Josh hasn't quite taken to the glamorous Hollywood and finds his international fame difficult to understand. On the set of his recent film The Skulls he found himself confronted by screaming fans." The fan part's not that bad-someone comes up and says, 'hey I like what you do,keep up the good work,' and they might ask for a picture or autograph and continue on there merry way. But having someone scream at you in the street is a little strange. After all I am a human being!".

Although Josh has filmed for seasons of Dawson's, he has only recently bought a house in Wilmington, where the series is filmed.Previously he called his mums house in Canada home. Despite his love of women and wild nights, he's happy to settle in the sleepy town, away from the glare of the spotlight. "Y'know I'm not too much of a hip and happening guy. I'm not a big dance club sort of person and when you work a 60 hour week, the last thing you want to do is be in LA.It's all clubs and parties and everything and it's all bull. I'm not missing much by being in a small town."

His biggest extravagance apart from an extensive CD collection (Josh is a big fan of folk music Ben Harper and R&B groub Gangstarr) has been the purchase of a truck which he often loads up with camping gear for a weekend away in the woods.

Other times Josh is content to pass away the hours at Vinnies restaurant where he hangs out with Katie, James Van Der Beek and the rest of the cast, sharing a slize of pizza and a coke. This is the spot where James and Josh had there first heated row-about whether or not the internet should be censored. However, Josh assures us the pair laugh about it now.

Following the succes of Dawsons's and a string of Blockbuster film roles, Josh is regarded as one of Hollywood's hottest talents yet he is critical of his abbilities as a n actor "watching myself on Dawson's is like watching one disappointment after another, because I'm trying to convince you I'm someone else-but I can't even fool me."

And his responseto Dawson's creator Kevin Williamson's claim that Josh is the next Tom Hanks? Josh simply laughs, "Well it's flattering but I ahve a lot to learn from where I am now to be performing at the same level as Tom Hanks."
